ER Admitting Representative

Job Summary

Responsibilities include interviewing patient/patient’s family to obtain patient’s demographic and insurance information, verify insurance, collect co-payments and obtain signatures on various documents. Will register ER patients at the beside when necessary. Responsible for transferring and discharging inpatient when appropriate, determination and collection of patient’s financial responsibility at the point of service, and satisfaction of regulatory requirements (Advance Directives, medical necessity determination; Medicare Secondary Payer completion and coordination of benefits; Important Message from Medicare issuance, HIPAA policy and Patient Rights distribution; and EMTALA). Ability to communicate concisely and clearly is important. Critical thinking skills for problem resolution is required. Essential is the ability to provide excellent customer service to patients, patients’ family members, healthcare providers, medical staff offices, and peers.

  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial and HMO payers.
  • Ability to perform analytical problem solving.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Ability to operate concurrently within a variety of hospital systems.
  • Working knowledge of PC applications, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Keyboarding skills.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and establish priorities effectively.
  • Self-directed and capable of working without direct supervision.
  • Dependable in both production and attendance.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations.


Professional Requirements

  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • ER Admission Rep must poses’ a thorough working knowledge of hospital computer systems.
  • Strong working, knowledge of insurance and authorizations processes with insurance companies, IPA’s and Medical Groups.
  • Displays professionalism, tact, respect and team effort when working with co-workers, patients and the public.
  • Understand insurance and medical group.
  • Is knowledgeable in understanding insurance I-Plans and their proper use.
  • Demonstrates awareness to time sensitive insurance and medical group notification to assist in securing authorizations.


Regulatory Requirements

    • High school graduate or equivalent required.
    • Bilingual capability (English/Spanish) desired.


Language Skills

    • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
    • Additional languages preferred.
    • Strong written and verbal skills.


Skills

  • Basic computer knowledge.
